Waterloo need a point to clinch Premier Division title against nearest rivals, Drum win Division Five title on their old ground, Brigg Town Over 50`s reach third successive cup finalu

There were seven re-arranged league games along with the second Over 50`s Divisional Cup Semi Final played today. With a couple of potential title decoders amongst them.

PREMIER DIVISION

LORD NELSON  1  WATERLOO  2

Lord Nelson entertained Waterloo at Sir Henry Cooper Park with the visitors needing the points to retain top spot. Waterloo won a tight game by the odd goal in three to put them in pole position to win the title. Their scorers were Scott Phillips and Leigh Staplehurst. They need a point from their last game which is against their nearest challengers in Reckitts.

DIVISION TWO

PRESTON UNITED  3   BOTTESFORD TOWN  6

Preston United welcomed Champions Bottesford Town to Addison Road in this re-arranged game. After a tense opening period Preston went in front when Rob Murray scored and they created other chances to extend the lead but were unable to take any of them and the visitors punished them with four unanswered goals. When Bottesford added a fifth it looked all over but Murray completed a fine hat trick to make it 5-3 before a sixth goal for Bottesford sealed the points and enabled them to end the season unbeaten in the league.

SWANLAND A  6  HEDON RANGERS A   1

Swanland A took on Hedon Rangers A at West Leys Road knowing they had already sealed second place in the table. It ended in a comfortable win for the hosts after goals from Liam Allott 3, Chris Spinks, Chris Tooley and Joe Winn. Dean Davis with the Hedon goal an excellent free kick strike.

DIVISION FOUR

GILBERDYKE PHOENIX 3   BRIGG TOWN  0

There was a top three clash at Newport as Gilberdyke Phoenix took on third placed Brigg Town after their own ground was unavailable. Gilberdyke had to win to maintain their title chances but were facing the only side who beaten them this season. The first thirty minutes saw both sides cancel each other out until Dave McMahon put Gilberdyke in front and they led by this goal at the break. The second half was a repeat of the first with both teams struggling to gain control before an unfortunate own goal gave Phoenix a two goal lead and they rounded off the scoring in the last minute through Liam Bell. The title is likely to be decided on the last day of the season when AFC North visit Gilberdyke with a winner takes all scenario. Just to add to the drama the two sides meet in the Cup Final next Sunday.

DIVISION FIVE

DRUM    2  HESSLE RANGERS  1

Drum moved their home game against Hessle Rangers to their long time home ground at Tommy More after the Costello pitch was deemed unplayable. Drum knew that they would win the league if they got the three points a similar situation to last week which they were unable to take. Drum went ahead on twenty five minutes when a fifty yard pass from Lance Dales found Andy Taylor who finished well. Hessle fought back and by half time they were back on level terms. In the second half Drum created numerous chances but were unable to convert any of them until fifteen minutes from time when Jamie Willerton scored the winner and they saw out the game to take the title. How ironic that they celebrated on their spiritual home with the late great Dave Nichol watching proudly on.

DIVISION SIX

EASINGTON UNITED  7  LITTLE WEIGHTON  4

With no pressure on the game Easington United and Little Weighton went into their game at Low Farm in a relaxed manner and they produced an eleven goal thriller. Easington won 7-4 with their goals coming from Chris Frost 4, Lee Cooper, Sam Outing and James Martin.

OVER 50`S CUP SEMI FINAL

BRIGG TOWN  6   BRIDLINGTON TOWN ROVERS  0

In the second Over 50s Divisional Cup Semi Final Brigg Town welcomed Bridlington Town Rovers to the EC Surfacing Stadium as cup holders and favourites to make it to the final next Sunday. The game was effectively over by half time by which Brigg were 4-0 ahead. The early part of the second half saw Brid have the better of the exchanges but they were unable to reduce the arrears and two late Brigg goals made the final score 6-0. Scorers for Brigg were Allan Tate 2, Jon Taylor, Jason Maxwell, Shaun Roper and Stewart Gourlay. They meet Lincolnshire rivals Louth in a repeat of last season`s final next week.

OVER 50`S DIVISION WEST

BLACKBURN LEISURE  2  RECKITTS  3

Blackburn Leisure took on Reckitts at Brough a few weeks after a 0-0 draw in the earlier fixture. This was a more open affair which saw Mike Evin put the visitors in front and they lead 1-0 at half time. Evin with a second followed by a Mark Tennison third seemed to put the game beyond Blackies. However they rallied well and a goal from Gary Boldy followed by an own goal by Steve Lapping made for an interesting last twenty minutes but there were no further goals and Reckitts ran out 3-2 winners.
