Recap

AFC WILLERBY A   1   KINGBURN ATHLETIC  1

It was second versus top at Well Lane as AFC Willerby A hosted Kingburn Athletic and as always is the case when these two sides meet it was a hugely competitive affair which could have gone either way. The home side definitely had the better of the first half but their final ball was not good enough. They nearly took a first half lead when a shot hit the underside of the bar and then bounced up and hit the bar again before being cleared by the visitors defence which was in excellent form all afternoon, so it was 0-0 at half time. Kingburn came more into the game as the second half progressed and they missed a couple of good chances to go ahead. They did eventually take the lead on 70 minutes shortly after Willerby had hit the bar when the home side when trying to play out from the back presented the ball to Adam Rhodes who calmly finished from twenty yards out. Their lead didn`t last long for within five minutes Willerby equalised when Mike Claxton looped a header over the Kingburn keeper. Both sides looked to get the winner but there were no further goals and a draw was probably the right result.
