Recap

Newcomers Gilberdyke Phoenix were playing their first ever Veterans League game when newly promoted St Peter`s travelled down the A63 to be the first visitors. Gilberdyke got off to great start when Sean Neal headed home at the far post. St Peter`s were quick to respond and equalised shortly afterwards  and were 3-1 up at the break, their goals coming from Matt Dickinson, Andy Smith and Dave Snowden. Two early second half goals from Simon Lill and Snowden`s second for the visitors effectively ended the game as a contest. Gilberdyke never gave up and deservedly pulled a goal back through Dave Stevens  before Steve Collins and James Carew rounded off the scoring at 7-2, although  St Peter`s won comfortably in the end getting their Division Three campaign off to the best possible start , Gilberdyke showed that they will with time be better for the experience of this first game.
