Recap

Preston United entertained league leaders and top scorers Malt Shovel Selby at Addison Road. After missing several chances Preston finally got their shooting boots on and hit five without reply, the goals coming from Darrel Thompson with 2, Mike Wardell also with 2 and Rich Gawthorne getting the fifth. Malt Shovel staged a mini comeback in the second half when Chris Harkin scored twice but Preston regrouped and added three more goals which saw both Thompson and Wardell complete their hat tricks and Gawthorne grabbed his second as the visitors paid the price for a shambolic defensive display which sees them lose top spot to Northern Wanderers and they are joined by Preston in joint second spot.
