Recap

Apollo welcomed Appleby Frodingham to St Mary`s College in the first of two meetings between the sides in just three weeks knowing that a win would see them return to the top of the table. They did so in the end very comfortably against an Appleby side who only had a bare eleven to start with and when their extra player arrived he eventually had to go off injured in the second half. The home side started off the better of the two sides and could have gone ahead in the first couple of minutes. They did go in front on eight minutes when Jeff Gawthorpe put them ahead from the penalty spot. The second came mid way through the half again from Gawthorpe who finished well after being put through. Apollo had the majority of play but Appleby kept them at 2-0 until half time. The second half was difficult for the visitors as they tired and Apollo took full advantage as they scored five times without reply. Dave Brooke with a fine finish made it three, Liam Dolan was next on the score sheet when he scored from the penalty spot before the goal of the day came from Joe Fortes who smashed home a shot from twenty five yards for 5-0. Rich Ward got their sixth before Ben Brook scored a seventh from their third penalty award of the afternoon.
